For more information on metabolic psychiatry, I recommend reading Brain Energy. The book, Brain Energy, presents the first comprehensive theory of what causes mental illness, integrating decades of clinical, neuroscience, and metabolic research into one unifying theory. Mental disorders are metabolic disorders of the brain. This theory integrates biological, psychological, and social factors and helps us understand the connections between mental health and physical health. It answers questions that have long plagued the mental health field, but more importantly, it offers new solutions, ones that come with the hope of long-term healing as opposed to just symptom reduction.
Good Energy is another book I recommend, as it covers metabolic health and inflammation. Good Energy is a unifying framework for understanding what causes symptoms and diseases, and how to feel amazing now and in the future. Dr. Casey Means explains how optimizing cellular energy, or “Good Energy,” can be the key to preventing chronic diseases and living a healthier life.
If you want to learn more about metabolic health and insulin resistance, Why We Get Sick may be the book for you. Dr. Ben Bikman reveals the groundbreaking evidence linking many major diseases, including cancer, diabetes, and Alzheimer's disease, to a common root cause, insulin resistance, and shares an easy, effective plan to reverse and prevent it. Dr. Bikman examines why insulin resistance has become so prevalent and its significance. Unless we recognize it and take steps to reverse the trend, major chronic diseases will be even more widespread. But reversing insulin resistance is possible, and Bikman offers an evidence-based plan to stop and prevent it, with helpful food lists, meal suggestions, easy exercise principles, and more
